The first SmartPhone with inbuilt Projector: Samsung Galaxy Beam

he new Samsung Galaxy Beam : which will make its debut in Singapore next week has one feature that will set it apart from other mobile phones on the market today; it has a tiny “Pico” projector.

On the surface it looks just like any other SmartPhone, it has a 3.7 inch Super AMOLED display screen and comes with Android 2.1 operating system.

You also get the usual stuff of course like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as a camera (8 megapixel), and GPS.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam will sport Android 2.1—an Android 2.2 update should be in the works not too far down the line—along with an 8 megapixel video-capable camera, a VGA-resolution front-facing camera for video chat, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 wireless networking, assisted GPS, an FM receiver, TV output, DLNA sharing, plus that spiffy 3.7-inch AMOLED display. Overall, the Galaxy Beam’s appearance and specs are in line with other Galaxy-class smartphones Samsung is rolling out to U.S. carriers—with the exception of Sprint, which is getting one with a dedicated QWERTY keypad.

Samsung says it plans to bring the Galaxy Beam to markets in Asia and Europe this year, but there’s no word when (or if) the Galaxy Beam might reach North America.
