The Samsung Galaxy S smartphone previews

The Samsung Galaxy S smartphone emphasizes multimedia capabilities, with a Super AMOLED screen and 1GHz processor capable of handily powering everything from games and HD video to streaming movies. The smartphone is being offered on multiple carriers under different names: on T-Mobile, it’s the Samsung Vibrant; on Verizon, the Samsung Fascinate; on AT&T, the Samsung Captivate; and on Sprint, the Samsung Epic 4G.

The launch date for the Samsung I5800 Galaxy has already been set, the mobile phone manufacturer stating it is going to be somewhere in July 2010 and among the first countries to benefit from it being the UK. You will be able to acquire the new phone through the Before You Buy local dealer. There hasn’t been any information regarding the pricing for the new phone, but there isn’t any expensive price tag expected for it.

The Samsung Vibrant and Samsung Captivate, both reviewed by eWEEK, offer some of the best multimedia features seen on a smartphone. However, a few applications, including the Samsung Media Hub touted as an iTunes-killer, were not available yet; and some of the hardware and software could use a bit of tweaking.

At O2, the Samsung Galaxy S is free on plans of at least £30 per month, but you can also get it with a £25 plan and pay £49 for the handset itself.
